kite leash

Why using a short leash is better than long leash for 95% of riders?

05 Oct 2018

For the last few years long leashes have been dominating the market. Why? Has anyone ever stop to think about it? What is the point of long leashes? Which is actually best… long, medium, short, leash-less?

We can all agree it’s better to go with a leash then without so we can cross off leash-less. Though what about long leashes? What is the point of using one? The primary use of long leashes is for unhooked freestyle: that’s it. If you are not ever doing unhooked it is really not needed.

A short leash is less bothering between the legs and forces you to attach and connect the leash in the front of your harness. This makes your leash easily accessible at all times with both hands and simple to use from a safety standpoint.

We can now see a shift in the market were brands are addressing this by creating harnesses with attachment points in the front and offering short leashes. This is a change that all professional kiteboarding practitioners can be proud of.

Are you using a short leash yet?
