Cilff was a very informative and friendly instructor during the course at Matas Bay. I'd tried to do lessons by myself before and it really clicked and made sense when doing the 1:1 lessons with Cliff, taking me from just about board starting to riding upwind on both sides. I had a total of 9 hours of kite surfing lessons with Cliff, and I was thoroughly satisfied with the experience. Although I had taken a couple of courses a year ago, I still felt like a complete beginner—and Cliff met me exactly where I was. From the start, he made me feel safe and confident. He took the time to explain and repeat safety instructions with a lot of patience, never rushing the process. We revisited key points from previous lessons, which helped everything sink in more clearly. What really stood out was his honesty and care for his students: one day, he advised me to postpone a session due to difficult conditions for beginners—just so I wouldn’t waste time or money struggling through something unproductive. That kind of integrity is rare and says a lot about how much he values your experience. We covered everything from kite control, body dragging, and water starts to launching the kite from the beach and practicing self-rescue. By the end, I was even able to stand up on the board for a bit, which felt like a big win in the given conditions! Cliff teaches with humor, fun, and a grounded, patient energy that really helps you stay calm and focused. I’d recommend him wholeheartedly to total beginners and especially to anyone feeling nervous—he knows how to create a safe and enjoyable learning environment.

I had a great experience learning kitesurfing with Cliff. He really took the time to focus on the basics, which helped build a solid foundation. I appreciated that he never pushed me to move on to the next step unless I felt completely safe and ready. His patience made a big difference—especially since kitesurfing turned out to be more challenging than I expected. It was my first time standing on a surfboard, i‘ve only ever stood on a SUP. Cliff, my kite-teacher, explained everything to me from zero, in a way that i could comprehend everything and understand it quickly. He taught me a lot of details, and also all the important self rescue and safety measures. Cliff was mindful and extremely friendly in the way he interacted with me, and when i inevitably messed something up, he reacted calm and was very reasuring. All in all i had a great time learning kitesurfing with Cliff, i don‘t think i could‘ve asked for a better teacher to start my kite-adventures with.

L'océan n'était pas vraiment mon ami, donc j'étais un débutant très peu sûr de moi, mais la patience de Clifford et ses explications incroyablement détaillées m'ont donné la confiance dont j'avais besoin pour commencer et continuer le kitesurf. Il a décomposé chaque étape si clairement que j'ai toujours su ce que je faisais et pourquoi. Je le recommande vivement !

Cliff adjusted the difficulty and rate of progress to my comfort level, ensured I can handle emergencies, and helped me advance through the steps of kite surfing. And he is a fun guy all around!
