IKO Powerkite Trainers
IKO Powerkite Trainers represent the highest level of powerkite teaching worldwide.
Trainers travel the world to run IKO Powerkite Instructor Training Courses (ITCs), training new Powerkite Instructors in IKO methodology. By certifying new instructors and sharing their knowledge and experience with others, Trainers contribute to the development of the sport.

Martyn Shanks
Nationality: English, lives in the UK
Job: Driving Instructor and Kiting Instructor! Martyn works at many different schools in the UK and Kitesurf Cyprus, both on land and water.
Experience: Has flown kites all his life, but started powerkiting in 1996 when he received a 6 ft stacker for his 18th birthday. Has raced in his national fleet in buggies, entered landboard races, and self-taught kiteboarding on a windsurfing board with a ram air kite. Martyn started teaching buggying for the PKA in 1999, and in 2000 started teaching kiteboarding on a Wipka style course. He is now IKO qualified in both powerkiting and kiteboarding, and has contributed to the production of IKO manuals.
Mark Davies
Nationality: Welsh, living in Scotland
Job: Co-owner of Synergy Kitesports
Experience: Instructing a wide range of outdoor pursuits full-time since 1998, qualified as an IKO instructor in 2003. Founded Synergy Kitesports in 2005 with Maggie Cleeve. Has also judged national kitesurf freestyle competitions and international snowkite freestyle competitions. Has competed nationally in both buggy freestyle and buggy racing.
Maggie Cleeve
Nationality: British, lives in Scotland
Job: Co-owner of Synergy Kitesports
Experience: Kiting since 2003, on land, sea and snow. Instructing a wide range of outdoor pursuits since 1997, instructing kitesports since 2004. Has competed nationally in kitesurfing, landboard freestyle and buggy racing, and internationally in snowkite freestyle and with her highest achievement being Snowkite World Champion 2008.
