Organize an ITC/IEC

What is an ITC or IEC?

An IKO Instructor Training Course (ITC) is an intensive program designed to train Candidate Instructors and certify them as IKO Instructors. ITCs can train Instructors for kiteboarding, snowkiting, or powerkiting instruction. Kiteboarding and snowkiting ITCs last 5 days, while powerkiting ITCs last 2 days.
An IKO Instructor Equivalency Course (IEC) is an accelerated course for qualifying individuals that certifies Candidates as IKO Instructors, and lasts 3 days for kiteboarding/snowkiting and 1 day for powerkiting. ITCs and IECs help develop and promote professional kiting worldwide by upholding training and safety standards and increasing the number of trained kiting instructors working globally.

Hosting an ITC/IEC at your school

Organizing an ITC/IEC gives your school the opportunity to train instructors at a low cost, and earn a profit.

How many ITCs can my school host?
  • Any non-IKO-affiliated school is allowed to host 1 Water or Snow ITC before needing to seek IKO Affiliation.
  • Schools that have been affiliated at one time but are not anymore, may not host ITC's until they completed the Re-affiliation process, then they may again host Water or Snow ITC’s.
  • IKO Affiliated Centers may host as many Water or Snow ITCs as they choose (provided the courses are being filled).
  • Because there are currently no IKO affiliated powerkiting schools, any school is allowed to host a Powerkite ITC, and may host as many as they choose.

Who can organize an ITC or IEC?

Examiners and School Managers may organize as many ITCs as they like directly through their Pro accounts. Anyone else interested in organizing an ITC may register as an Independent ITC Organizer (see below for details).

Becoming an Independent Organizer

You do not have to be the manager of a kite school to organize an IKO course! There are a number of individuals that choose to earn extra income as Independent ITC Organizers, setting up arrangements with various schools to organize and promote their training courses for them. Organizing a course is a fun way to make a bit of extra money, and you will be helping to expand the IKO Network by bringing in new Instructors to the Pro family.

To organize an IKO course independently (and not as an Affiliated Center Manager or Examiner), you must first become a registered ITC Independent Organizer.

Registration as an Independent Organizer requires payment of a small yearly fee.

This will give you access to a dedicated section of the website especially for ITC Organizers, filled with all the tools you will need to plan a course. Through your personal ITC Organizer page, you will be able to: schedule new ITCs that will be publicly listed on the IKO website, view your courses as they fill up via online registration, manage your courses after the ITC has closed, and more.
