Powerkiting Level 1

Powerkiting Level 1 is your gateway to the dynamic world of
powerkite sports!

This entry program is based on flying trainer kites with a bar control system. You will receive in depth instruction about the safety systems, launching and landing, wind directions and how to get the most out of every flying session!

Your level will be certified with your IKO Member Card at the end of your lesson, or when you can successfully move on to the next level of riding! You can also keep a more in depth record of your development in the Handbook, having your instructor sign off on all individual skills as you master them.

Level 1 (Flying with a bar)

Level 1A

• Set-up – rigging and ground handling skills
• Pre-flight checks of equipment
• Safety checks of kite and equipment before flying

Level 1B

• Personal and safety equipment required for power kiting – including emergency equipment for specific locations

Level 1C

• Launching and landing, with an assistant or independently
• Use of kite leash and safety systems
• Piloting in the wind window and power zone. Understanding key areas and safety
• Simulate change of direction using a top turn
• Untwisting lines while kite is flying

Level 1D

• Landing the kite alone
• Safety pack down

Level 1 E

• Walk across the wind with the kite to simulate traction
